Pokémon card Pokédex number at a glance

  • What this splits. The Pokédex number ties every print of the same Pokémon together, whatever the set is called and whatever extra words the card name carries. Grouping by the number keeps prints of one Pokémon in one place instead of scattering them by name.
  • How many groups. 206 Pokémon, holding 7,142 cards between them, of which 6,774 carry a price.
  • How the sizes run. From 24 cards in the smallest group to 177 in the largest, with the middle group holding 30.
  • How the prices run. Typical prices go from $0.54 to $160.00, and the middle of those is $5.31. Single cards inside the groups run from $0.03 to $4,500.00.
  • What is not counted. Cards with no price on file are excluded from every price figure, so a group's card count and its priced count can differ. Graded prices, population counts and sealed product values are not published here.
  • When it was read. The counts and prices on this page come from the archive as it stood on August 14, 2026.

There is no page to turn — all 206 Pokémon are on this one address. The price column is the typical price of that group, which is the middle price of the cards inside it. Prices were read on August 14, 2026.

Group size and group price do not move together. Pikachu holds the most cards (177), while Gengar carries the highest typical price ($160.00) — and those are different groups.

A big group is a common one, so its cards are easy to find and usually cheap. A dear group is a scarce one. Reading both columns together is what tells you whether a card is expensive because of what it is, or because there are few of them.

How Pokémon card prices are spread across Pokédex numbers

These bands count groups, not cards. They answer a different question from the list above: not which group is biggest, but what shape the whole split has.

The two halves of this table count the same groups twice — once by what they cost and once by how big they are. Shares are of the 7,142 cards in this list.

Half of the 206 Pokémon have a typical price below $5.31, and the whole set of typical prices runs from $0.54 to $160.00. Inside the groups the individual cards go much wider — from $0.03 to $4,500.00.

That gap between the group middle and the single cards is the point of this axis: a cheap group can still hold an expensive card. The group tells you what to expect, not what you will pay.

  • Cheapest to dearest card
  • Middle half of the cards
  • Typical price (the middle card)

The tick inside the box is the middle card. The closer it sits to the box's left edge, the more the cards cluster at the cheap end of that range.

One row is one Pokémon. The thick line is the typical price, the block is the middle half of the cards inside, and the thin line runs from the cheapest card to the dearest. That scale is used because the prices here span 6 decades — on an even scale every cheap group would sit on top of one another.

The 12 largest groups are shown; the full list is the panel grid above. Read the three price columns together: a group where all three are close is dear all the way through, while a group with a low typical price and a very high dearest card is carrying one chased print. A dash means fewer than four cards in that group carry a price, which is too few to split into quarters.

The widest Pokémon on this page: how many times the dearest card inside costs more than a cheap one. A wide Pokémon is not an expensive Pokémon — it is one where the price of a single card tells you almost nothing about the next.

Every Pokémon that carries a price on both dates, biggest move first. Bar length is measured against the largest move (338.0%), not against price, so the bars compare the Pokémon with one another. Window: September 12, 2025 to August 14, 2026.

Change in the typical price of each Pokémon between September 12, 2025 and August 14, 2026, counted from 206 Pokémon that carry a price on both dates.

Taken together, Pokémon cards sorted by Pokédex number rose from a typical $1.61 to $2.61 over the 11 months on file — +62.1%. The ladder shows that the whole did not move as one: 204 Pokémon rose and 2 fell over the same window.

Which Pokémon holds the most valuable Pokémon card?

The list above ranks Pokémon by what an ordinary card inside them costs. This one ranks them by their single most expensive card, which is a different question with a different answer.
This ranking has no trade-volume columnfree-data limit — how often a card actually changes hands is not published in any source this site can read without paying for it.So this section says what a card is listed at, and stops short of saying how easily it sells. A high price on a card that rarely trades is not the same as a high price on one that trades every day.
Lugia — Aquapolis 149

Lugia 149 · $4,500.00 · the dearest single card in the whole Pokédex number list, and it sits in Lugia, whose ordinary card costs $77.70.

No. 1 Lugia at $4,500.00 is $1,283.33 above No. 2 Pikachu ★ at $3,216.67 — 1.4 times its price.

The cards behind the five bars above. Each one is the dearest card of its own Pokémon.

The two rankings disagree, and that is the useful part. Lugia holds the dearest single card at $4,500.00, but Gengar is the dearest Pokémon by typical price at $160.00. One group has a chased card in it; the other is dear all the way through — and only the second of those makes an ordinary card of that group expensive.

Dearest Pokémon — by priceGengarGengar50 cards$160.00
What is certain
The two rankings count different things
Pikachu holds 177 cards, the most of any Pokémon. Gengar holds 50, yet its ordinary card costs $160.00 against $29.06.
Where they split
Size is availability, price is scarcity
A big Pokémon is a common one, so its cards are easy to find and usually cheap. A dear one is scarce. The same phrase — «the top Pokémon» — means two different things depending on which column you read.
What only this list shows
One page at a time hides the disagreement
A single Pokémon page shows one group and a card page shows one card. Only the whole Pokédex number list, read side by side, shows that the leader changes with the question.

Pikachu is the largest Pokémon with 177 cards. The remaining 205 Pokémon share what is left.

The biggest Pokémon and the dearest Pokémon are not the same Pokémon

Bars are measured against Gengar at $160.00 = 100

  • Mew49 cards in this Pokémon$101.72
  • Middle of the 206 PokémonHalf of them cost less than this, half cost more$5.31

The dearest Pokémon costs $160.00 per card while the middle one costs $5.31 — a gap of 30 times. Size does not move with price: the biggest Pokémon, Pikachu, is only No. 33 of 206 on this ladder.

The rest are left out of every price figure rather than guessed at.

No single Pokémon holds every record. The largest is Pikachu, the dearest by typical price is Gengar, and the one card that tops the list sits in Lugia — three different places on this page.

The most valuable Pokémon card in every Pokémon

One card from each of the 206 Pokémon — whichever is worth the most inside it, dearest first. Every Pokémon is here, so this is also the quickest way to see what a Pokémon actually looks like.

The dearest card of each of the 206 Pokémon, dearest first.

All 206 cards are on this one page — there is nothing folded away. Each picture opens that card's own price page; to open the Pokémon instead, use the list higher up. Prices were read on August 14, 2026.

Back to summary
The first six panels open the largest Pokémon on this page. The rest cut the same 20,444 cards by a different measure altogether, so a card you found here can be found again from another direction.
The bar is the number of groups, measured against the measure that splits the archive most finely. A measure with many groups cuts the archive into small, specific lists; one with few groups cuts it into broad ones. Pokédex number makes 206 of them.

What the Pokémon cards inside each Pokédex number are like

Price is only half of what separates one Pokémon from another. This table reads the cards themselves: how tough they are, how hard they hit, and what beats them.

HP and damage are the averages of the Pokémon cards inside each Pokémon. Stage and retreat cost are counted differently: each Pokémon reports its own most common value, and the figure says how many Pokémon picked the same one.

The 12 largest groups of 206 are shown; the full list, with sizes and prices, is the panel grid above. Typical HP and typical max damage are the averages across the Pokémon cards in that group. Main weakness, stage and retreat cost are the most common value in the group, not the only one.

Two groups can hold the same number of cards and still play nothing alike. Reading this table next to the prices above is what turns Pokédex number from a label into a description — you can see whether a dear group is dear because its cards are strong, or only because there are few of them.

Pokémon card Pokédex number — frequently asked questions

How many Pokédex numbers do Pokémon cards split into?

The 7,142 English Pokémon cards on file split into 206 Pokémon. The Pokédex number ties every print of the same Pokémon together, whatever the set is called and whatever extra words the card name carries. Grouping by the number keeps prints of one Pokémon in one place instead of scattering them by name.

Which Pokémon card Pokédex number holds the most cards?

Pikachu, with 177 cards — 2.5% of every card in this list. The next largest groups are listed above with their own card counts.

Which Pokémon card Pokédex number is the most expensive?

By typical price, Gengar at $160.00. The cheapest is Shinx at $0.54. Typical price means the middle price of the cards inside that group, so half of them cost less and half cost more.

What is the most expensive Pokémon card in the Pokédex number list?

Lugia 149 from Aquapolis, at $4,500.00. It sits in the Lugia group.

Do all Pokémon cards have a Pokédex number?

No. 7,142 of the 20,444 English cards on file carry one, which is 34.9% of them. The rest are outside this axis and are not counted anywhere on this page.

Why do some Pokémon card Pokédex numbers have no price?

Every group has a price, but not every card does. 6,774 of the 7,142 cards in this list carry a price on file; the rest have never been listed at a price this archive could read, so they are left out of the price columns rather than guessed at.

How often are these Pokémon card Pokédex number prices updated?

Prices are read once a day from public marketplace listings. The counts and prices on this page were read on August 14, 2026. Card facts — which card belongs to which group — come from openly published card files and change only when a new set is added.

Are Pokémon cards going up in value by Pokédex number?

Over the last 11 months the typical Pokémon card that carries a Pokédex number rose from $1.61 to $2.61, a change of +62.1%. The split did not move as one: 204 Pokémon rose and 2 fell over the same window.

Which Pokémon card Pokédex number rose the most this year?

Wooper, whose typical card went to $3.46 — a change of +338.0%. At the other end, Spiritomb changed by -10.9% over the same window. Each group is ranked on this page with its own figure.

Which Pokémon card Pokédex number holds the most valuable card?

Lugia — it holds Lugia 149 at $4,500.00, the dearest single card anywhere in this list. That is a different question from which group is dearest on average, which is Gengar at a typical $160.00.

How much does a cheap Pokémon card cost, by Pokédex number?

It depends entirely on the group. In Mankey a quarter of the cards cost $0.25 or less, which is the cheapest entry point of any Pokémon in this list. The table on this page gives the same figure for every group, so you can see where an inexpensive card is genuinely inexpensive.

Does Pokédex number tell you what a Pokémon card is worth?

Only roughly. Typical prices across the 206 Pokémon run from $0.54 to $160.00 — a spread of 296× — but inside a single group the dearest card reaches $4,500.00 while the cheapest is $0.03. The group tells you what to expect; the card itself decides.

How these counts are made, and where you can check them

Every figure on this page is counted from the 7,142 English cards this site holds on file — 6,774 of them with a price read once a day from public marketplace listings into this site's own archive. Nothing here is estimated: a card with no price is left out of the price columns rather than filled in. The places below are where the same card information can be checked.

What this page counts when it counts Pokémon, and what it leaves out

  • This page counts the 20,444 English cards this site holds on file, not every Pokémon card ever printed. Cards in other languages are not in these figures.
  • Only 7,142 of those cards record a Pokédex number at all, so the Pokémon below add up to that number and not to 20,444.
  • Prices are read from 6,774 cards. The remaining 368 carry no price in the archive, so they are left out of every price figure rather than counted as zero.
  • A Pokémon appears here only when it is big enough to stand on its own — at least 24 cards, 12 of them priced, and 10 with a card image. Smaller ones are still counted in the totals above.
  • Every price is a median, not an average. One chased card can be worth thousands of times an ordinary one, and an average would let that single card speak for the whole group.
  • These figures are a snapshot of a market that moves. Nothing here is an offer, a valuation or advice to buy or sell.

Prices read on August 14, 2026 · card facts counted on the same file.

Note: Prices on this page are asking and market prices for ungraded English cards, taken from a daily snapshot of public marketplace listings read on August 14, 2026. They are not offers, they exclude shipping, duty and marketplace fees, and they move. Counts cover only the English cards this site holds on file, so a Pokémon can hold cards that are not counted here. Graded prices, population counts, sealed product values and pack odds are not published on this site because no free commercial source provides them.
